Alternate Investment Funds

Alternate investment funds are alternative source of funding for businesses. These include private equities, venture capital funds, angle funds , hedge funds etc.AIFs are regulated by Security exchange Board of India (SEBI).As per the regulations they come under three categories –

CAT 1-They normally include Venture capital funds , infrastructure funds , angle funds nd social ventue funds with the objective of investing in socially and economically viable Start-ups , SMEs and projects.

CAT 2- These include Private Equity, Debt funds, fund of funds with the objective investing in various debt and equity based securities.

CAT 3-These are investments aimed at short term returns achieved by employing complex trading strategies by Hege funds and Private Investment in Public Equity Fund (PIPE)
